Accuracy That Moves Illinois Forward

Welcome to ICORN's Web Access

The Illinois Continuously Operating Reference Network (ICORN) is a statewide system of permanent,
high-precision GNSS reference stations designed to deliver real-time corrections and reliable
geospatial data to users across Illinois. ICORN provides survey-grade accuracy, consistent statewide
coverage, and alignment with modern national geodetic standards. Leveraging a dense network of
reference stations, ICORN improves positional accuracy for surveying, engineering, GIS, agriculture,
transportation, scientific applications and beyond.

What Is ICORN
ICORN is an integrated GNSS correction network that supports:
• Real-time kinematic (RTK) positioning
• Network RTK (NRTK) services
• Post-processing with archived RINEX data
• Multi-constellation, multi-frequency tracking (GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou, QZSS)

Why ICORN Matters
Illinois relies on precise geospatial information for infrastructure, public safety, economic
development, and scientific research. ICORN strengthens this foundation by offering:
• Reliable, consistent accuracy across the entire state
• Compatibility with the upcoming National Spatial Reference System (NATRF2022)
• Redundancy and high availability compared to commercial networks
• Cost-effective access to precision GNSS corrections
• A unified coordinate framework for Illinois agencies, companies, and communities

Who Uses ICORN?
ICORN supports a wide range of professionals and organizations, including:
• Professional land surveyors
• Civil engineering and construction firms
• State and local government agencies
• Transportation and infrastructure planners
• Precision agriculture operations
• Drone/UAV mapping teams
• Universities and research institutions

Network Coverage
•ICORN is being deployed statewide with station spacing optimized for RTK/NRTK performance
(typically 35–50 km, see the Sensor Map tab for detailed station locations)

Technical Capabilities
ICORN delivers industry-standard positioning technology:
• RTCM 3.x real-time streaming
• RINEX 3.x downloadable archives
• Low-latency NTRIP caster access
• Multi-frequency support including L1/L2/L5 and Galileo E1/E5
• High station up-time and continuous monitoring
• Alignment with ITRF and modern NGS standards

Partners and Governance
ICORN is developed with support from Illinois agencies, municipalities, academic partners,
and national geodetic collaborators. The network is managed with a commitment to data integrity, open
standards, and long-term stewardship.

Access and Availability
Users can expect:
• Secure portal login
• Station status map
• Real-time stream access
• Downloadable data archives
• Email updates and system alerts

The Future of ICORN
ICORN is designed to evolve with GNSS modernization and Illinois’ geospatial needs. Goals include:
• Full NATRF2022/NAPGD2022 integration
• Expanded station density
• GNSS integrity monitoring
• Improved regional and interstate interoperability
• Enhanced support for research and environmental monitoring
